Consulting WorX launches marketplace to support Mums
Media Release Date: 1 September 2009
There’s no doubt the economic downturn has created a precarious workplace for many. Numerous organisations have had to make staff redundant in order to cut costs. However, there are still fundamental tasks or projects businesses need to accomplish, often with a reduced workforce. On the flipside many workers who have recently lost their jobs are seeking opportunities to earn an income while working in a more flexible way. An online forum to bring these two groups together is an idea developed by Michelle Casey and Patrina Kerr, both at-home mothers of small children and now directors of a new web-business called Consulting WorX.
Consulting WorX is an online marketplace that connects businesses looking for flexible staff with professionals looking for project-based or consulting work. In the current financial climate, many families are seeking extra income and one of the aims of this exciting new venture is to help professionals looking for work that they can fit around their other domestic responsibilities.
“There are many professionals with good marketable skills looking for flexible project-based work,” say Michelle Casey, Director. “These include people recently made redundant, at-home mums or dads whose partners may be facing job insecurity, and also those who may be looking to return to the workforce after a period of absence raising children.”
“Flexibility and choice are the key elements of Consulting WorX” adds Patrina Kerr. “For example, a stay at home parent who wants to get back into the workforce part time, could use Consulting WorX to look for consulting opportunities that can be completed while their child is at preschool three days a week.”The
Consulting WorX premise is simple and straightforward. Consultants looking for work can promote their profile on the website and businesses can post new jobs. Consultants and businesses can then search the available jobs or profiles to find a match for their needs. Consulting WorX can also assist businesses to match jobs to suitable consultants and interested parties make contact and take it from there. Businesses can post as many job requests as they like, free of charge if using the self-service options or for a nominal fee have Consulting WorX match suitable consultants to jobs. And the cost to individual consultants is a small annual membership fee and a minimal success fee based on jobs won.
“Consulting WorX is not a recruitment agency,” stress its two directors “but more like an introduction website for businesses and workers.”
